Abstract

In 2017, the Historical Archive of the City of Barcelona celebrated its 100th anniversary. The article begins with the exposition of the historical trajectory of the institution, in which the figure of Agustí Duran y Sanpere, founder and director of the center for forty years, stands out. The following explains how the Historical Archive has carried out the functions assigned to it (preserving, describing and disseminating the documentary heritage and history of Barcelona) with great professionalism, until it has become a cultural center of reference at a national and international level. Finally, a list is made of the main collections (documentaries, bibliographical, hemerographic) that the Historical Archive guards and how it has promoted the investigation and dissemination of the history of Barcelona.
