The main purpose of this paper is to question the dynamics the affective relationships between artists during the first half of the 20th Century by addressing concepts such as “muse”, “genius” and “creativity” as terms based on gender stereotypes within art historiography. To do so, we will focus on the relationship between the well-known Austrian artist Alfred Kubin and the lesser known draughtswoman Emmy Haesele. Their secret love fostered the creation of some common themes and the construction of a specific iconography that enables a better understanding of both artists.
